It’s always somewhat dispiriting to hear the hectoring tones of Patti Smith as a show gets underway; it normally means that, fashion-wise, doom and gloom are on the agenda. Thankfully, this wasn't the case at Undercover. It was Ms. Smith's androgynous, 1970s New Wave style—her layers of dinner jackets, striped vests, and slouchy shirts, worn with stretch leggings or faded denims—by which designer Jun Takahashi was inspired.
In fab condition, few fringes broken but still fucking rocks. No stitches broken. Back pocket missing(intentionally). Pretty wash giving off the punk vibes. Prob the most iconic uc jeans? Straight from aw04, so ab 18 yrs old. Lovely🖤.
If you want more history and info on the jeans read below, if not fk off:
Uc 68 were actually recycled from vintage jeans and produced into the product, distressed and resewn with threads that create the complex scabby patterns you see. Red yarn was lifted from ur fellow favourite rockstars that tie ribbons on their jeans.
Also patti’s lightning bolt on the left knee, inspired by Crazy Horse: The strange Man of che Oglalas by Mari Sandoz. “Crazy Horse believes that he will be victorious in battle, but if he stops to take spoils from the battlefield, he will be defeated. He tattoos lightning bolts on the ears of his horses so the sight of them will remind him of this as he rides. I tried to apply this lesson to the things at hand, careful not to take spoils that were not rightfully mine.”
Another tip: you can tell the year of the jeans with a simple trick: if theres a white seam across the red yarn sewings, its from aw04, or else it would prob be an re-edition. Re-editions also have other colour-ways, but red is the best imo.
Measurements:
Waist:30”
Inseam:26.5”
Leg opening: 6.5”
Thigh:19”
Front rise: 9.5”
