Over his 41 collections for his eponymous brand (+ a few for Hermes),led fashion into a truly avant-garde high art form. Tbh, theres a lot of ppl with better introductions to margiela so just look at the garment for now.

From spring 1999 collection, "When not worn these pieces are totally flat," read the words at the back of a stage on which men in white lab coats presented clothing on hangers as if at an auction. These garments have held back necklines that allow garments to be laid completely flat. Martin has long been distorting and reconstructing garments, but this is one of the truly groundbreaking and visual collections that made his rigorous design process shown so clearly in the garments themselves.
